As of the 1st of July 2020, certain functions under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation must be undertaken by an accredited practitioner (fire safety), AP(FS) or a registered certifier.
These include assessing the fire safety measures on the Annual Fire Safety Statement. A role which was previously completed by a Competent Fire Safety Practitioner (CFSP).
An accredited practitioner (fire safety) is an individual accredited under an approved industry accreditation scheme, for the functions covered by that scheme. The Fire Protection Association Australia (FPAA) accreditation scheme was approved on 1 July 2020 as an industry association recognized accreditation authority for accredited practitioners (fire safety).
Effectively, for the majority of properties this means that, as of 1 July 2020, practitioners must be accredited under FPAS if they wish to perform ‘regulated work’ under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2000 (EPAR).
To perform these roles, practitioners under this scheme will need to hold an accreditation number.
Fire System Design & Certification P/L remains committed to improving the level of knowledge, compliance, and safety within the industry and has practitioners within our organization who are accredited and capable of assessing all 30 statutory fire safety measures including Level 1 and Level 2 measures.
Please contact Fire System Design & Certification in regards to the changes to the legislation, and how it will impact on completing your properties AFSS.
We continue to look forward to working with you and your team and will continue to strive to make the places where we live and work as safe as possible for our families, our friends and our community.
